November 30

This is my culminating thankful blog.  I have probably touched on some of this, but I feel blessed in so many ways!   I was born to two of the best parents a person could ever have.  They loved me unconditionally, were amazing role models, and were always there for me!

Also, I belong to a very large, fun-loving family; many people don't even know their extended families, and we all get together often. I have a great husband, great kids, and the best granddaughter ever! I have an awesome church family as well!

I had a job I loved for many years, and I am retired. The pleasure I experienced through the years with children was awesome!

I have a fun, joyful and full life, and all of these things, as well as the things for each of the 29 previous days would not be possible without the love of God and the grace from a loving Jesus.  I am so thankful I am a Christian....definitely not perfect, but I don't have to be!  Thank you, Lord!!

November 29

Pinterest, I am thankful for you!  Tonight we had some awesome chicken breasts that were so easy and yum, and where did I get the recipe?  You guessed it!

Now that I have expressed my thankfulness for dear Pinterest, I must share my fears!  Like all good things, there is the possibility that it may someday disappear!  It's so nice to save recipes (and ideas, etc., but mostly recipes!) there, but what happens if it goes away?  Scary thought, isn't it?  Think of the time you have spent pinning all of those things!  I must confess, though, that instead of searching, I mostly just repin things I see from friends on Facebook!  I am very thankful for Pinterest.

I am also thankful that this "November Thankfulness" is almost over.  I have enjoyed it, but making sure I did an entry every day kind of stressed me out at times!  It would be midnight, and I would think, "Oh, no, I didn't do my blog post!"  I would hop up and run into the computer room to make sure I didn't miss a day!  No one said the journal had to have a daily entry; it's just some pressure I put on myself.

I really have enjoyed writing random thoughts, though, so I may do another one.  I will just get it in my head that I will add to it at random...just like my thoughts!

November 28

I am thankful that the Christmas season has begun, even though I still have a lot to do. I am thankful that we had time to put up our tree today. Lucy loves this tree, but she really didn't want us to put ornaments on it; she liked them better in a pile where she could pick them up and look at them closely.

This tree means a lot to me. A few years ago, I really had no desire to put up a tree. I was at Garden Ridge and saw this tree. It has big ball lights on it, and they blink off and on in patterns of different colors, to music, if one desires. I ran into some friends that day and showed them the "tree that does tricks!" They loved it, too! I decided I would get it and decorate it entirely with star ornaments. I bought some there, and then kept my eyes open for more stars in the next few days. I was inspired and became excited about having a tree again! I will never forget the way that tree made me feel that year...I still love it...it now has more than just stars on it. I am so thankful that I came across this happy tree those years ago that helped me through a very difficult time! Now it brings great joy to Lucy...we left it up way past Christmas last year, because when she would wake up each morning, she would point at it and want it turned on! Great tree!

November 27

Today I am thankful that said drugs from yesterday made me feel better!  I stayed in all day again doing really nothing.  I am still not 100%, but I am way better!  I was able to keep my date with Melanie to go to Murry's to see a play.  We had big fun!  Now I am very tired!

November 26

Modern medicine is what I am thankful for today.  I broke down and went to the doctor.  After some poking, prodding and listening/talking about the inventions of Ben Franklin (yes, my doctor is an interesting sort!), I don't really have a diagnosis, but I know that my throat is extremely red ("any redder, and it would be bleeding") and the worst he has seen in awhile and that I am contagious.  I also know that he prescribed an antibiotic and a high-powered cough medicine, so therefore, I know that in all likelihood I will be feeling much better by this this time tomorrow!  I also should no longer be contagious, so I should be able to continue with my actual life activities!!

November 25

I am so thankful that I had a day to lie around and do nothing and perhaps help this hateful cold/sore throat lessen to some degree!  I am thankful that I have good and understanding people who have my back when I need to take a night off from my duties at church!  I am so glad we decided for me to train Reed just in case I needed off sometime and am glad she was excited to do it!!  I am also thankful that Melanie is feeling better, as well....not fun when we are under the weather!!

November 24

Today I am thankful for Lucy.  She has brought such joy into my life.  She makes me laugh and amazes me constantly.  I cannot imagine my life without her in it!

November 23

This morning I was thankful that I did not stay out all night shopping!  The rest of the day I was thankful that I had a lazy day just watching DVDs, eating leftovers, playing with Lucy, and then I even took a nap!

This evening, I did go out, so that I could do my "Buy something on Black Friday" for my 100 Things.  I am thankful that I had a rebate card and was able to get all of the Harry Potter DVDs I didn't already have, as well as ET, Benjamin Button, and a DVD for Melanie...all on sale, and then with the card, I only paid $3.22 out of pocket!!  It was awesome!!

November 22

Spending Thanksgiving with my large family is what I am most thankful for today.  We had awesome food and great conversations and many laughs! What a great day!

November 21

Today I am very thankful that I went to the grocery store yesterday.  I did not have to be anywhere today or leave the house for any reason.  I did some piddling, cleaned out some things that needed clearing, cooked supper, and made a couple of things for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.  Now to try to get to bed early enough, so that I will be up in plenty of time to watch the parade and finish cooking!

November 20

Thankful am I for impromptu family get-togethers with Shauna, Wendy, Madison, Macy, Melanie, Lucy and me.  We had a meal together, watched some funny videos, and then played some cards!  It was big fun!  Unplanned activities are always the best, in my opinion...thankful for Shauna suggesting it and offering her home!

November 19

I am thankful that Adam and were able to spend the day together, working on the storage building.  We got a lot done, had some great conversation, including memories, ate a meal together...just the two of us, and worked really hard!  I love my son and am very thankful for him!

November 18

Probably the greatest speaker about the grace of God is Andrea Allen!  I am so thankful that I was at youth tonight and got to hear her give her story in the present Backpack series.  I always hang on every word when I hear her, and she brings tears to my eyes.  Did I mention that I believe God placed her in my path almost 7 years ago?  Methodists have always had many women in ministry, and I had told Melanie that I just didn't know if I could stay at this church she wanted to attend if they placed a woman minister there...sounds so wrong to me now, but hey, it's the way I felt and the truth.  Andrea's husband was our youth minister at the time, he brought her in as a guest speaker, and when I heard her speak, I realized the error of my ways!  She is so very awesome!  Her husband is now the pastor of the service I attend at the church, and she is a pastor at a church in NLR.  I don't get to hear a message from her very often, but when I do, I am blessed!

November 17

I am so thankful that on clear nights like tonight, I can see stars all the way across the sky.  Being away from city or suburban lights makes it so beautiful.  It is a feast for the eyes!!

November 16

I am thankful that Melanie found the perfect place for Lucy's first haircut! The chairs are vehicles ( She chose an airplane), and they are all about catering to children. She didn't even cry; she wasn't sure about the blowdryer, but they whipped out the sucker jar, and she was fine!

My 2nd thankul thing for the day is that I had the opportunity for a "Breaking Dawn" girls night out with some great friends...had loads of fun!

My 3rd thankful thing is that Melanie had a chance to go out with some friends after girls' night out. She doesn't go out without Lucy (and/or me) very often, so Lucy and I got to hang out until her bedtime...we ate Sonic....not sure she had ever had a tator tot before, but she liked them! We followed that with an ice cream cone...I bought some colored ones the other day, and this was her first chance to try one. It was pink...and she bit the bottom out of it...it was great! I told her she wouldn't want to do that next time....she will probably try, though.

Whew! I am tired, but what a great day this was!

November 15

I am thankful that although my life is not perfect...well, perhaps it's not perfect--it is very joyous!  I have a husband who works hard (lately, too much so!), a place to live and a place to run when I want time alone, plenty of food to eat (perhaps too much!), a wonderful son and daughter, the best grandchild in the whole, wide world, good health, reliable transportation (do need to find out why the "check engine" light is on, though!!), great friends, a super-awesome extended family, fun and loveable pets...yes, it is a great life!  I will probably be thankful for some of these things individually before the month is over, but this is the middle of the month, and I am feeling very blessed this evening!  I have some friends who are going through some rough times, which makes everything in my life seem great, and anything I might think is a problem is miniscule in comparison.  I am also so blessed to have the power of prayer to use for said friends.  God is good!!

November 14

My church family is what I am thankful for today. They  touch my heart and make me laugh...a lot! I love them all...William, for sharing his story in hopes of making a difference in the lives of kids and leading the youth praise band each week (He is so wonderful with them...Kendall has finally found her niche as a result, I think!)...Tyler, who leads, even though he wasn't there tonight (conveniently on a middle school night!)...Mitchell, who was in charge of the masses in Tyler's absence and did a fine job and didn't lose his cool...Kat, who is just an amazing and funny human being!...Emily, who wasn't even supposed to be there, for taking charge when I pointed out the kid dancing on the pool table before we got started! (She was closer; I was up in the sound booth)...Zeke, whom I love with my whole heart, who popped in at the end after being gone to Disney World for over a week...we all stood around after Mitchell got all of the kids out (I told him it was like herding cats!), talking and laughing.  They are all so much fun and such a blessing in my life.  I probably should have been thankful for ellipses today, since I used them way too much and actually improperly!!  Oh, well!!

November 13

Today I am thankful for Kroger's online coupons that you can attach to your Kroger card. It is so nice to go grocery shopping, get money off on items, and never have to clip nor keep up with paper coupons! They just hang out in cyberspace, waiting for me to use them! Another point goes to technology!!

November 12

Today, I am thankful for being able to just turn a dial and have heat!  Brrr...it's cold.  My heart goes out to those not so fortunate.

November 11

There have been many people post about this today, but it IS the day set aside to do so.  I AM very thankful for veterans of the past who enabled us to have the freedoms we have now, and I am thankful to more recent veterans for being willing to fight to retain our many freedoms!  We often take what we have for granted; I know I am guilty, but there are people all over the world who do not come close to having what we enjoy in this wonderful country.  We are blessed!

November 10

Strangely enough, today I am thankful for Facebook!  My mother used to keep me informed of various things going on in my family, but sadly, she is no longer here to do that for me. Most things I know now, I find out on Facebook!  That in itself may sound sad, but I am thrilled that I live in this age of technology, where we can know things almost immediately!

This morning, I saw a post that informed me that my great niece was going to be in a pageant today. I was able to shower, get dressed, head that direction and arrive at our destination with time to spare!  (I bummed a ride with my niece, Shauna!)  Madison won the teen pageant, we speculated through the college-aged one (My sister-in-law, Jennifer, made notes), we took lots of pictures, and then we all went to eat afterward.  The day was filled with pride in Maddie's accomplishment (she was poised and so beautiful...we needed no speculation nor notes for that one!), much fun conversation, and many, many laughs!  If it hadn't been for Facebook, I would have missed out on all of that!

November 9

Although I usually hear Tyler play traditional drums at least once and sometimes twice a week, I am very thankful that I got to hear him play 4 different percussion instruments tonight at his Senior Recital. He is so very talented and amazing in what he is able to do. I am also thankful that I get to work with him on a regular basis, as he is our super-awesome youth director!

November 8

Today would have been my dad's 88th birthday, so this seems like the perfect day to say how thankful I am that I was lucky enough to be his daughter.  He was always there for me, no matter what was going on in my life; if one looked up "unconditional love" in a dictionary, his picture might be there as an example.  My dad taught me so much about honesty and integrity, as well as the importance of family.  I miss him, but he definitely lives on through me....and many others!!

November 7

I am so thankful that I have the opportunity each week to experience wonderful Christian music by very talented high school students. I also get to hang out with some amazing people!  Middle school students don't scare me as much as they used to, either...desensitization really works, I think!

November 6

I am so thankful that I was able to spend some time with retired friends for lunch today.  I'm sorry that one person was missing due to a wreck but thankful that she is okay.  It was nice meeting with people who retired as media specialists at the end of the past school year just like me.  Comparing notes and sharing joys was such a nice thing to do in the middle of the day.  There were only three of us, but that was interesting, as well, because one of us was elementary, one was from middle school, and the third was from high school.  It was great!  We decided to do it again in about a month.  Perhaps our missing friends will be able to make it next time!

November 5

I am thankful that I live in a country where I am allowed to vote for issues and people. So many people do not have this freedom, and I thank those brave souls who fought to make it possible. As an added bonus, I do not have to stand in line tomorrow, on actual voting day, because I was able to spend about 5 minutes early voting last week! We do not all believe in the same things or support the same people, but we have the option of choice!

November 4

Today, I thought I would be thankful for an extra hour of sleep, and it WAS nice! However, I am most thankful that I have freedom to worship in the way I desire. I don't think of other folks' ways as wrong, but it is nice to have a choice.  Some people are not given that privilege, and I feel extremely fortunate that I do!

November 3

Living on the farm is what I am thankful for today. To be able to walk outside and come face-to-face with a wide, open field and a beautiful Fall treeline is utterly awesome!  I feel so fortunate to be able to soak in the beauty of nature in my own front yard!

November 2

Today I am thankful for digital photography. In the past it was hit-or-miss whether you got a good shot, and you had to print the entire roll no matter what! Now I can take several shots of the same thing, look at them immediately and decide if I need to try again. I can easily edit them, print any or all, if I desire, or post them somewhere or share them digitally! I feel blessed to have lived in the age of digital photography, but equally as blessed to have also lived without it, so I can appreciate it even more!

November 1_2012

On this day, I am thankful that I had a career that I loved that enabled me to retire comfortably at a fairly young age...thus, I did not have to get up early and go teach young children on the day after Halloween!
